Supporting Youth Employment

Although our main aim is to promote independent living in Aberdeen City, Aberdeen Care and Repair has recently started working with young people by offering work placements and traineeships. Our support of these schemes provide young people with hands-on work experience, improving their confidence and their chances of gaining permanent employment after their work placement is finished. It also encourages inter-generational communication and allows young people to be aware of the issues facing older and disabled people.

During an 18-month period from mid-2013 to the end of the 2014/15 financial year, 44 trainees were offered placements in either administrative or handyman roles.

Care and Repair supported a number of different types of placements during the 18-months, which is shown in the graph below.

During this period trainees provided almost 14,000 hours of work to Care and Repair. This equated to
193 extra hours of work being carried out, compared to if these work schemes had not been in place.

Many of our trainees have been successful in securing employment following their time at Aberdeen
Care and Repair, with 5 being kept on as permanent members of staff at Care and Repair.
